About The Book

Sherbet

Sherbet is a warm and nostalgic children’s story about friendship, anticipation and the simple pleasures of childhood.

The story follows two young girls, Niki and Mim, as they make their way through a summer neighbourhood lined with eucalyptus trees, gardens and familiar suburban scenes. Their adventure begins with the sweet scent of strawberries, watermelon, chocolate and other sugary treats drifting through the warm afternoon air. Curious and excited, the girls follow the enticing aroma until they arrive at a much-loved lolly shop.

Inside, they discover a colourful world filled with glass jars, sweets and childhood favourites. Behind the counter is Lizzy, the kind and welcoming shopkeeper, who becomes an important part of their little adventure. After patiently waiting and asking for sherbets, the girls finally discover that Lizzy has some in the storeroom.

But their special treat means even more because Niki and Mim have saved their precious coins over many days through their little chores. When they finally receive their sherbets, the excitement and sense of achievement make the moment all the more special.

The story then follows the girls back into the summer afternoon, where they enjoy their sherbets with infectious excitement. Powdery clouds of sherbet follow them as they dance, giggle and make their way home.

At its heart, Sherbet is a celebration of the little experiences that can become treasured childhood memories. It captures the excitement of discovering something wonderful, the happiness of sharing an experience with a friend and the satisfaction of earning a special reward through patience and effort.

With its colourful setting, sensory descriptions and gentle characters, Sherbet invites young readers into a world of summer sunshine, friendship, imagination and old-fashioned childhood joy.
